What is a failed pickup or delivery?

A failed pickup or delivery occurs when a carrier arrives at the pickup or delivery location but cannot complete the assignment. This may happen if the goods are not ready, the recipient is unavailable, or the booking information is incorrect.

The shipment then needs to be rescheduled, which often leads to additional costs.

Common causes

Failed pickups or deliveries can occur for several reasons, for example:

  • Goods are not packed or ready for collection
  • Incorrect address or contact details
  • Recipient is not present at delivery
  • Limited access for the truck (e.g. narrow roads)
  • Required equipment not specified (e.g. tail lift)

What happens in case of failure?

When a failed pickup or delivery occurs, a fee is usually charged since the carrier has performed a trip without being able to complete the service.

It may also result in:

  • Delivery delays
  • Rebooking of the transport
  • Additional handling and administration

To avoid failed pickups or deliveries, it is important that all booking details are accurate and that both sender and recipient are prepared at the time of collection and delivery.
