What is POD (Proof of Delivery)?
POD, or Proof of Delivery, is evidence that a shipment has been successfully delivered. It is used to verify that the goods have reached the correct recipient at the specified time.
POD is an important part of the transport process and is commonly used for tracking, invoicing, and handling claims.
What does a POD include?
A POD typically includes:
- Delivery date and time
- Recipient’s name or signature
- Confirmation of received goods
- Any remarks (e.g. damage or discrepancies)
In many cases, a digital signature or image is also included as proof.
Digital POD
Today, most PODs are handled digitally, where the recipient signs directly on a handheld device or mobile device at the time of delivery.
The information is stored and made quickly available to both sender and recipient, making it easier to track shipments and handle any issues.
Why is POD important?
POD acts as a receipt confirming that the delivery has been completed and helps reduce disputes between sender, carrier, and recipient.
It is especially important for:
- Delivery confirmation
- Invoicing
- Claims handling
- Tracking and follow-up
