Loading Meter

A measurement used in road transport to describe how much space cargo occupies along the loading area of a vehicle

What is a loading meter?

A loading meter (often abbreviated LDM) is a unit used in the transport industry to indicate how much of a vehicle’s cargo space is occupied by goods, for example in a truck or trailer.

One loading meter normally corresponds to one meter of the vehicle’s loading length across the full width.

This measurement is mainly used when transporting larger goods, pallets, or machinery that cannot be stacked and therefore occupy a full section of the loading area.

When are loading meters used?

Loading meters are commonly used for:

  • Pallet shipments
  • Machinery transport
  • Building materials
  • Goods that cannot be stacked

Carriers use this measurement to calculate freight costs when cargo occupies a specific portion of the vehicle’s loading space.
